Biobore is the brand name of SFL's acclaimed range of T316L stainless steel tubing and fittings.

Available in ¼ inch to 6-inch (outside diameter) sizes, our Biobore bends, tees, ferrules, adapters and reducers provide an effective processing solution which meets the high quality demands of the bio-pharmaceuticals industry.

SFL's second-generation Biobore products conform to the 1997 ASME BPE specification and are manufactured to its strict dimensions and tolerances, ensuring suitability for closed head orbital welding. BPE Biobore products are supplied with test certification and are etched with the works order number, ASME BPE 1997 table number and cast/heat number.

The full range of BPE Biobore products will be offered from August 2001, with 90° and 45° bends available in both standards until the end of 2001. Following a phased changeover, BPE dimensioned products only will be supplied from January 2002.

External finishes of Biobore stainless steel tubing and fittings can be either mill finish or polished to 0.8mm, while internal finishes can be specified with a mechanical or electro-polished finish. In all instances fittings finishes match those of the Biobore tubing.

Designed for high purity water applications - which demand a high quality process environment to prevent contamination by harmful bacteria - Biobore tube and fittings ensure water flows consistently within strictly controlled hygienic surroundings. This results in optimum customer plant productivity as downtime for cleaning is reduced.

Biobore benefits

  • The inner surface of Biobore systems is pit and crevice free, eliminating bacteria traps and ensuring the products are totally hygienic.
  • Biobore proves its performance capabilities time and again, having been installed in major FDA validated pharmaceuticals plants worldwide.
  • BPE Biobore weld end end fittings offer superior welding capabilities, thanks to the tighter dimensional tolerances detailed in the new ASME specification.
  • SFL's strict quality control throughout the manufacturing process includes an independent chemical analysis of raw materials.

O.E.M. Fabrications

SFL's fabrication service is widely used by original equipment manufacturers. We can fabricate from your drawings for all pipework requirements and have the facilities for closed head orbital welding in sizes ¼ inch to 4 inch (outside diameter) and manual welding up to 12 inch (outside diameter).

All accessible manual welds are mechanically polished on the I.D. to meet pharmaceutical industry standards.

Our systems, which incorporate a tracing facility, enable us to produce detailed documentation to assist with customer validation procedures. We can therefore supply weld maps, procedures, quality plans, x-rays and video boroscoping.

We also have considerable experience in manufacturing special fabrications such as skid- mounted units - requiring stainless steel bases, tanks, pumps, valves and pipework - and swing bend panels. In all instances, these special fabrications are developed in accordance with customer designs and comply with bio-pharmaceuticals industry standards.

Experience to find the right solution

The engineering and technical expertise we have gained during our long association with the bioprocessing and pharmaceuticals sectors enables us to provide an after sales support to a variety of processing industries.

Customers outside the bio-pharmaceuticals sector include water companies and those utilizing water based paint systems, which purchase Biobore tubing and fittings which comply with their industry standards.

SFL's wealth of experience in interpreting standards means we can help you make the right choice for your application. We can:

  • Advise the parameters for welding equipment and gases based on our records from independent weld trials.
  • Supply tube and fittings from a single cast per line size to ensure weld consistency.
  • Develop prefabrications from your isometric drawings or CAD disk, to help improve efficiency and reduce installation times, while ensuring that premium quality is maintained.
